Visit of General Bikram Singh, Chief of the Indian Army Staff to Maldives

Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army General Bikram Singh visited Maldives on an official visit from May 8-10, 2014. During his two-day visit, General Bikram Singh called on President Yameen and held meetings with Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.

Discussions between the delegations were focused on continuing and further enhancing the military to military cooperation between the two forces. General Bikram Singh also attended a Flag hoisting ceremony at the 1988 Victory Day memorial honouring the Indian Defence Force’s participation to prevent the coup in Maldives. This was the first time that such a ceremony involving an Indian dignitary was held in Maldives.
