Visit of External Affairs Minister to Maldives

On November 1, Indian External Affairs Minister Ms. Sushma Swaraj met with the Indian ALH (Advanced Light Helicopter) crew stationed in Maldives, which is assisting the MNDF in Search and Rescue, EEZ Surveillance and medical evacuation, during a transit halt of her aircraft at Gan en route to Mauritius. On November 3, External Affairs Ms. Sushma Swaraj met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Ms. Dunya Maumoon during her transit halt at Male on her return journey from Mauritius.

Both Ministers discussed matters of bilateral importance, including upcoming projects in Maldives executed with India’s assistance.

During the meeting, Ms. Sushma Swaraj extended Victory Day greetings to the people of Maldives and Foreign Minister Dunya and reiterated India’s strong commitment towards prosperity, stability and security of Maldives. She noted that India and Maldives were entering the 50th year of establishment of diplomatic relations and several events would be organised in the coming year to commemorate this important milestone in the bilateral relationship of both the countries. Indian High Commissioner Rajeev Shahare, Ms. Suchitra Durai, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and officials from the Indian High Commission and the Maldives Foreign Ministry participated in the meeting.
