Visit of Indian Armed Forces Medical team to Maldives

A team of 4 specialist doctors from the Indian Defence Forces led by Col (Dr.) Amresh Ghei visited Maldives from November 10-17, 2014 for free medical camps in Huvadhoo Atoll. Additional team members comprising 1 medical specialist and 1 paramedic from the Indian AFMS Team working at Senahiya also accompanied the visiting specialists. The specialists in the team are: Surg Cdr (Dr.) Rajeev A., Wg Cdr (Dr.) Sujata Bailur Datta, Wg Cdr (Dr.) Ran Singh and Maj (Dr.) Harikesh.

The team undertook OPD at G. A.Vilingili (10- 12 Nov 2014) and G.Dh.Thinadhoo (13-16 Nov 2014). This team went to above islands and consulting patients in regional health centres and conducted minor operative procedures. More than 1700 patients were treated during these medical camps.

The conduct of regular medical camps is a major initiative in Defence cooperation between the Government of Maldives and India to reach out to the people of Maldives. The programme is being planned and coordinated with the assistance of MNDF Medical Service. It is note-worthy that during the two medical camps, conducted in earlier this year in January and June 2014, more than 3000 patients have been examined and treated.
