Training of Maldives Police Service Officials in Hyderabad

Four police officials from Maldives Police Service (MPS) - Chief Inspector of Police Hussain Ali Manik, Chief Inspector of Police Sham Mohamed, Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Faseel and Chief Inspector of Police Dr. Mohamed Fazneen Latheef – departed today (December 21, 2014) for a yearlong training with the Indian Police Service officers at the National Police Academy Hyderabad. All expenses of their training, including their air travel, would be met by the Government of India.

The 4 officials met with the High Commissioner of India to Maldives Mr. Rajeev Shahare on December 18, 2014 at the High Commission. During the meeting, the officials thanked the High Commissioner and the Indian Government for providing the opportunity for developing their knowledge and skills in the area of security and law enforcement. High Commissioner Shahare reiterated India’s commitment for training and human resource development of the Maldives Police Service. Several top officials of MPS, including the current Commissioner of Police Mr. Hussain Waheed, have attended this prestigious course at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

Training of police officials is part of the capacity building initiatives of India and the Maldives, which is a cornerstone of the bilateral relationship between the two countries. India offers one of the most comprehensive training programs for Maldivians – both short-term and long-term. The training courses are extended not only to the Govt. officials in various ministries, but also to the independent institutions like the Anti-Corruption Commission, Elections Commission, Auditor General’s office, Peoples Majlis etc.

Recently, the Civil Service Commission has signed a MoU with the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad for training of Maldivian civil servants on a regular basis in India. High Commission of India is encouraging similar MoUs between Indian and Maldivian organisations in the area of training and human resource development.
