India assists in evacuation of Maldivian student from Yemen

The High Commission of India is pleased that Mr. Suhail Ali, a Maldivian national has reached Maldives safely after he was evacuated from Sana’a in war-torn Yemen by India along with the Indian nationals.

On request of the Government of Maldives, Mr. Suhail Ali was brought to Djibouti and then to Mumbai on 6 April 2015 by special Indian flights. In addition to more than more than 4000 Indian nationals, India evacuated around 250 foreign nationals of 26 countries.

It may be mentioned that the India has provided similar assistance to nationals of Maldives and other SAARC countries in earlier international crisis situations such as in Libya and before that during the Gulf crisis. In June 2014, India had assisted in evacuation of 16 Maldivian nationals from Lugansk in the eastern part of Ukraine after the security situation deteriorated there.
